CONFIRE is a Joint Powers Authority, or “JPA” in San Bernardino County, California. So what is a JPA?

A Joint Powers Authority is comprised of two or more government organizations coming together to form a separate government organization, for the purposes of exercising common powers. JPA’s are beneficial to communities as they provide funding for projects, solve problems, and provide a larger scope of expertise and staffing spread among participating organizations, that would otherwise be unattainable to a solo organization.

CONFIRE Dispatching

CONFIRE was originally established to provide emergency communications services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to all CONFIRE serviced areas and member agencies. This means that when you pick up the phone to call for fire or emergency medical services, and you live in an area served by CONFIRE, you would be speaking to a CONFIRE dispatcher. This dispatcher in turn, would be getting you the right people and resources to you quickly and efficiently through the use of computer and geographic information systems and radio communications.

Emergency Medical Services Division

Recently, CONFIRE established an Emergency Medical Service Division to provide a holistic approach to emergency medicine. When we speak of a “holistic approach,” we are looking at how we can best serve patients by looking at any obstacles they may encounter when it comes to getting the right treatment, services, and ultimately to the right facility for ongoing help. This ensures that the right resource gets to the right person at the right time. The Emergency Medical Service Division will provide emergency medical ground ambulance transportation, 911, interfacility, and critical care transportation.
